History tells us Brian Cashman will trade a catcher this offseason.
The Yankees general manager tends to deal from surplus, and that has been particularly true when he has a catching stockpile. He has swapped a catcher in each of the past four offseasons: Jesus Montero, Chris Stewart, Francisco Cervelli and John Ryan Murphy.
So expect one to move this winter. The current wisdom is it will be Brian McCann. But I am not so sure. Austin Romine is the more likely odd man out.
McCann has value to the Yankees as insurance for Gary Sanchez, a lefty bat in an increasingly righty-leaning lineup and a veteran leader.
