NEW YORK -- When Yankees manager Joe Girardi watches Matt Holliday, he sees a bit of an old teammate in the designated hitter.
Holliday carries himself much like retired right-fielder Paul O'Neill, with whom Girardi won a pair of World Series with the Yankees in 1996 and 1998, the manager said before Sunday's game against the A's at Yankee Stadium.
"Every at-bat is like his last at-bat," Girardi said. "I love that attitude. That was the attitude that Paul O'Neill brought everyday. He might not be as demonstrative when he makes an out, but you know when he makes and out and I love it.
