NEW YORK -- Yankees manager Joe Girardi did some out of the box thinking and put it into action Sunday after his hot club rallied in the ninth inning to force extra innings in a 7-4, 11-inning loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
Reliever Bryan Mitchell, who had worked a scoreless ninth inning, was replaced by Aroldis Chapman for the 10th and then returned to the mound for the 11th.
Judge took away a possible homer in the first inning of Sunday's game against Baltimore.
Why put Mitchell at first?
