Once was enough.
The Yankees released Chris Carter, the team said in a press release on Tuesday.
Carter had been designated for assignment for the second time five days ago, the exclamation point on a rough season for the 30-year-old. The team had also DFA-ed him on June 24, but after clearing waivers, Carter accepted an assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The Yankees will be on the hook for the remainder of Carter's one-year, $3.5-million salary. Any team that signs him to a big-league deal would owe him -- at the least -- the major-league minimum.
