Why Luke Voit blames himself for Yankees' loss after near game-tying grand slam in 9th

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Yankees first baseman Luke Voit was sure he'd tied the game with a ninth-inning grand slam Wednesday night.

Before the Yankees staged a late rally that fell short in an 8-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, Voit thought that he got all of a 2-0, middle-in fastball from reliever Sergio Romo while batting with the bases loaded, nobody out, a run in and his club still down four runs.

Voit for sure figured his blast was gone even though it went to deepest part of Tropicana Field, the short area that jets out in left-center field,

His gut feeling was off, and it led to a base-running decision that possibly cost the Yankees a chance to complete a miracle rally from trailing 8-3 through eight innings.
