Why historically inept Yankees pair isn’t going anywhere, yet

Even with a big hit by Stephen Drew in Seattle and a general recent uptick by Didi Gregorius, the Yankees have reached the one-third mark of this season with one of the worst offensive middle infields in major league history.

At the beginning of the three-game set against the Mariners, both Drew and Gregorius had an OPS-plus of 60 or lower. Only 10 previous times in major league history had a team ever let both their second baseman and shortstop qualify for the batting title (as both Drew and Gregorius currently do) and each produce an OPS-plus that poor.
