DJ LeMahieu has started more than 97 percent of his games played in the majors at second base.
Now he’s with the Yankees, who already have Gleyber Torres at the spot.
But Jim Hendry, a special assistant to general manager Brian Cashman who drafted LeMahieu in the second round when he was the GM of the Cubs in 2009, called the 30-year-old “a perfect fit” for his new team.
“He’s always shown the ability to play all four infield positions,” Hendry said by phone on Tuesday, one day after LeMahieu’s two-year, $24 million deal became official.
