Why a little time off was all Alex Rodriguez needed

ARLINGTON, Texas — Alex Rodriguez was back in the lineup Wednesday night after missing two games with a stiff left oblique and showed he was able to put his recent slump behind him with his first three-hit game of the season.

Rodriguez, who was mired in a 1-for-18 slump before his double against the Rays’ Drew Smyly on Sunday — his final at-bat before suffering the injury — homered off lefty Martin Perez in the fourth inning of a 3-2 loss to the Rangers. He followed that with a double to right in the sixth and then singled in the ninth.
