Bryan Mitchell was going to replace Adam Warren in the important swing-man role on Yankees manager Joe Girardi’s pitching staff.
Now, after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured bone in his left foot Monday, the right-hander might not be able to pitch again until August at the earliest.
“He will be out at least four months,’’ Girardi said of Mitchell, who suffered the injury breaking to cover first base last week against the Braves in a spring-training game. “We have to find out exactly what that four months means. … It will be at least four months before we see him.
