WASHINGTON -- Yankees right-hander Chase Whitley has decided to undergo Tommy John surgery following a consultation with team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad on Monday in New York. Ahmad will perform the procedure on Tuesday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
Whitley exited his start against the Rays last Wednesday in the second inning with what the team initially described as a "right elbow injury." He underwent an MRI examination the next day in Tampa, Fla., and he revealed he had been battling discomfort for at least two starts.
"I have no regrets about it," Whitley said after the MRI.
