NEW YORK -- When George Steinbrenner was running the Yankees, the Boss' motto was the same every year:
Do whatever it takes to win this year.
Usually at any cost, too.
His son's reign has been a little different.
Hal Steinbrenner, the Yankees' owner and general managing partner, still is spending big money on players, but he's dead set on getting the franchise under the luxury tax threshold in the near future and much more protective of the organization's elite prospects, now of which there are many more than past seasons.
