With an expanded roster, the Yankees will have to balance playing time at first and DH for several players.
Earlier this season, when the Yankees lost Mark Teixeira and a number of other backups, Rob Refsnyder stepped in as a decent enough first baseman. After Teixeira’s return from the DL, the Yankees were confident enough in Refsnyder’s ability that they DFA’d Ike Davis, a legitimate backup.
The Yankees saw value in keeping Refsnyder around as a utility player, since he hit well in the minor leagues. Unfortunately, Refsnyder never got into a groove.
