WATCH: Yankees pitcher Bryan Mitchell hit in face with line drive

A pitcher get hit anywhere on the head with a line drive hit off the batter’s bat is one of the worst things that can happen in baseball. Sometimes, pitchers get lucky and are able to make their next start. Other times, an injury can be so bad it forces a pitcher into surgery and threaten his life like it did with Brandon McCarthy in 2012.

On Monday night, Yankees pitcher threw a 93 mph fastball that Twins batter Eduardo Nuñez rocketed back to his head at 103 mph.

It’s an extremely scary situation, but thankfully Mitchell was able to leave under his own power, though still a bit wobbly.
