TAMPA -- Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka's spring training has gone smoothly so far.
On Tuesday, manager Joe Girardi named him the Opening Day starter, ending a two-year tradition of dancing around the question while monitoring Tanaka's health.
And on Thursday, Tanaka threw his first bullpen of spring training at George M. Steinbrenner Field. With pitching coach Larry Rothschild and Girardi watching, Tanaka unloaded from his arsenal.
