A slew of home run records were broken – from individual performances to single-season franchise records to overall league records.
Pete Alonso of the Mets broke the rookie record (53) once held by Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge. Nearly half the teams (14) set franchise records. The Twins set a single-season record (307), breaking the Yankees’ mark set last season. MLB broke the single-season record for homers (6,776) with weeks to spare. Teams averaged 1.39 home runs per game, breaking the all-time record of 1.
