Wanting to honor his family’s Dominican Republic ancestry, Dellin Betances will pitch for the defending World Baseball Classic champions when the 2017 tournament begins March 9 in Miami.
Since the Yankees’ reliever was born in New York, he qualified to pitch for USA or the Dominican Republic squads.
“Both teams want me to play [for them], but I made a commitment to the DR,’’ Betances told The Post Wednesday. “That is where my family is from, and I want to make them proud.’’
MLB won’t announce the WBC rosters until a new CBA is in place.
