Unpredictability helped Athletics thwart Aaron Judge

Shutting down the best (healthy) player in baseball isn’t easy, but the Oakland Athletics managed to prevent Aaron Judge from impacting their win over the New York Yankees on Saturday night.

Judge walked in his first plate appearance (his 18th walk in his last 18 games), but struck out in each of his next three turns (twice against Jesse Hahn, once against Ryan Madson. This was an accomplishment, because Judge was hitting .432 with 16 hits, 16 runs scored, five home runs and 11 RBIs in his previous nine games.
