Tyler Clippard has played a high-profile role in the Subway Series before, but, as he puts it, “I’ve never really had a chance to take it all in.”
He will beginning Friday, when the Mets’ reliever returns to the rivalry that he first experienced wearing pinstripes back in 2007. Clippard was 22 years old when he made his major-league debut, starting for the Yankees in a nationally televised game at Shea on May 20, 2007.
After warming up and hearing a chorus of catcalls from what he recalls as “relentless” Met fans, Clippard threw six sharp innings against the Mets in a 6-2 Yanks’ victory.
