TAMPA — The Yankees' tipped their hand on their final roster spot Wednesday night when making four more cuts just prior to the start of their game against the Baltimore Orioles.
First baseman Tyler Austin is among them, so it appears the Yankees will start the season with 13 pitchers and 12 position players … nine starters and a three-man bench.
The top contenders for the final spot are two right-handers: Domingo German and Jonathan Holder. Luis Cessa and Cody Carroll are long shots.
The Yankees have one spot open because reserve outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury is a near lock to begin the season on the disabled list.
