Tyler Austin may get another crack at Joe Kelly.
Austin, the former Yankees infielder, was sent from Minnesota to San Francisco for minor leaguer Malique Ziegler on Monday, the Twins announced, just two days after designating the infielder for assignment.
The 27-year-old became a casualty of the Yankees heavily crowded infield at last year’s deadline, drawing the ire of father Chris, before getting off to a scorching start with the Twins in 2018. He ended up slashing .236/.294/.488/.782 and nine home runs in 35 games, but a similar glut in Minnesota this spring made Austin expendable again.
