By this time next week, the Yankees’ season could either be on life support or getting a second wind. So much rests on their ability to take on the challenges that await them on the final road trip coming up, but it won’t even matter if they can’t take care of business wrapping up this homestand first. The Rangers are in town, and they are not a good team — their best player all year is currently wearing pinstripes — normally, this is a good thing, but this year’s Yankees haven’t shown that to be true. Put out the fire before it gets too bad, and if the season ends against the Sox or Jays then you can live with that — but don’t let it slip away to a bunch of teams whose seasons ended in June.
