The last time that the Yankees and Red Sox faced off, it felt like the death knell to the season. The Yankees desperately needed to make ground against their biggest rivals, and they tripped and fell all over themselves en route to losing three out of four when they probably could have won two of those lost games. Reports of the Yankees demise were greatly overexaggerated, however, and they’ve gotten into a new gear since that series.
The Sox have looked drastically different too — in all the wrong ways. Boston has taken their own stumble, letting Tampa slip past them for the division lead and coming perilously close to burning through their wild card lead.
