Almost 20 years later, I still remember that fateful night at Fenway Park when Mike Mussina nearly threw a perfect game against the Red Sox. Hell, I even blogged about it 10 years ago in one of the first FanPosts I ever did at Pinstripe Alley. I was not following baseball during the Yankees’ several no-hitters in the ‘90s, so this was the first time that I had ever cheered for someone to reach that magical milestone.
It, of course, was not meant to be. Big ol’ jerk store Carl Everett ruined it, and I had to wait two decades before I saw another Yankee carry a no-hitter into the ninth.
