This hulking Yankees duo already feels different

TAMPA — The 6-foot-6 mega-star right fielder, owner of the richest contract in North American team sports, was obtained by the Yankees, whose right fielder had just finished second in the AL MVP voting.

George Steinbrenner enlisted Dave Winfield before the 1981 season on a 10-year contract to juice his team’s star power and championship chances, though in Reggie Jackson he had a mammoth force who just led the AL in homers.

Sound familiar?

George’s son Hal approved the December trade that brought the 6-6 Giancarlo Stanton — 10 years remaining on his deal — to the Yankees, who already have Aaron Judge, who last year led the AL in homers and finished second in the MVP voting.
