Left-handed pitcher Stephen Tarpley is the odd man out with the Yankees officially re-signing Brett Gardner to a one-year, $12 million contract on Saturday.
To make room for Gardner on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated the Tarpley for assignment, they announced.
The 26-year-old reliever likely didn’t have much of a role in the Yankees’ loaded bullpen after going 1-0 in 21 games (24.2 innings), with a 6.93 ERA last season.
While the terms of Gardner’s deal were undisclosed, The Post in December reported his contract includes a $10 million option for 2021 as well as a $2.
