ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Add Gleyber Torres to the list of Yankees who are fighting injuries in the final week of the regular season.
The second baseman was scratched before Tuesday’s game against the Rays with what Aaron Boone called tightness in his “hip, groin area.”
Torres said he felt good enough to play and the rookie was available off the bench, but he missed three weeks in July with a strained hip — an injury the 21-year-old has dealt with in the past.
“With how much we’ve leaned on him of late, I was planning on giving him a day [off] one of these days, especially on the turf,” Boone said of the artificial surface at Tropicana Field.
