The Yankees aren’t ignoring Gary Sanchez’s slump anymore

After initially showing signs that he was about to bust out after coming off the disabled list, Gary Sanchez mostly has gone back into a slump at the plate — and he was dropped from second to sixth in the Yankees’ lineup Wednesday night against the Red Sox.

Manager Joe Girardi painted the move as more about elevating Aaron Hicks in the order, since the switch hitter brought a nine-game hitting streak into the game and led the team with a .439 on-base percentage, but there also is no denying Sanchez’s first full season in the majors has been mostly disappointing.
