The trap is set for Yankees to be duped into going for it

The Yankees first played in New York in late April 1903 as the Highlanders two months before Lou Gehrig was even born and seven months before the Wright brothers defied gravity.

So they have had 113 years to encounter all kinds of schedule quirks, and yet nothing may be more offbeat than what begins Tuesday, the home-and-home in Colorado, then Minnesota before those two squads come to The Bronx.

Usually such home-and-home manipulations are with teams sharing a division or at least a time zone. Colorado is an NL West club in the Mountain time zone. The Twins are in the AL Central — the farthest west of any team not in a Western division.
