A ground-rule double Saturday and a pinch-hit single Sunday don’t mean Alex Rodriguez has totally shaken off his late-season slump.
However, they are small signs Rodriguez is ready to get hot during the final week of the season.
After Rodriguez’s ground-rule, RBI double was the difference in Saturday’s 2-1 win over the White Sox, Rodriguez hit a ground single up the middle in the seventh inning of Sunday’s 6-1 victory. The hit moved Greg Bird to third and stopped an 0-for-13 Yankees slide with runners in scoring position.
“Just a day for him, playing mostly lefties today,” said manager Joe Girardi, who used Rodriguez to hit for Brendan Ryan.
