Just three days remain before the Yankees open their season in Toronto, and Greg Bird spent Monday visiting the surgeon who performed surgery on his right ankle last July.
The Yankees sounded hopeful that the first baseman won’t miss much — or any — time because of the inflammation in the same area, but Bird’s predecessor with the Yankees acknowledged the team might have a long-term issue with the injury-prone first baseman.
Mark Teixeira said the Yankees should be “very concerned” about Bird — not necessarily about this setback, but about the fact he’s been unable to stay on the field.
