BOSTON — For a franchise that has handed out long-term contracts as generously as some folks give candy on Halloween, the Yankees sure have a weird situation at second base, don’t they?
Now that Rob Refsnyder finally has joined the big-league club, the Yankees might as well make it weirder: They should platoon the rookie Refsnyder with the veteran Stephen Drew.
“Anything’s possible,” manager Joe Girardi said Saturday, hours before Refsnyder made his big-league debut in the Yankees’ 5-3 loss to the Red Sox and rookie left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez at Fenway Park.
Said Yankees general manager Brian Cashman: “We never deny anybody’s opportunity to push or force their way in, but the God’s honest truth is this is about Saturday night and Sunday right now.
