The ‘only problem’ Dellin Betances sees with his high-80s fastball

TAMPA — Dellin Betances remembered a lack of velocity that captured a lot of attention in the Yankees’ spring training camp four years ago. With the Yankees opening the regular season on March 28 in The Bronx, Betances’ fastball is again a popular topic of discussion.

“I am not concerned, it was the same thing in 2015, it was a big story,” Betances said Tuesday morning at his George M. Steinbrenner Field locker. “The only problem is that it’s later in spring training this year and the season starts earlier.”

Betances arrived in camp after the other pitchers due to the birth of his first son and has been playing catch-up since.
