TAMPA -- An ex-Mets hurler hopes a new take to an old pitch can bring him back to New York.
Left-hander Jon Niese said he believes changing the grip on his changeup -- dropping its velocity, adding more movement -- could be one of factors that help the Yankees decide whether to add him to the big-league bullpen.
Niese said he's developed the new changeup with pitching coach Larry Rothschild.
"It's not easy to pick up a new grip on a changeup and be able to command it," he said in the clubhouse at George M.
