The cautionary tale Yankees hope to avoid with Gary Sanchez

SEATTLE — Gary Sanchez isn’t the first young catcher to take The Bronx by storm after being called up during the season.

It was just five years ago that Jesus Montero had people take notice when he arrived in September, thrust immediately into a playoff race. Nine games into his career, the right-handed bat with power to all fields had four extra-base hits — including three homers — six RBIs and an OPS of 1.078.

Montero hit well through the rest of the month and had a pair of singles in his only two at-bats in the postseason against the Tigers.
