Stevens Institute of Technology junior Charlie Ruegger is out in Wisconsin playing summer baseball.
The 2018 Major League Baseball draft was in the back of his mind, but being drafted was something he wasn’t expecting to happen.
But it happened.
Ruegger, a junior pitcher at Stevens, was drafted with the 997th overall pick by the New York Yankees in the 2018 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft Wednesday. Ruegger is only the second player in the program’s history to be selected in Major League Baseball’s First Year Player Draft, and the first in 45 years.
