Starter rocketing up system has eyes on Yankees’ rotation

Since the Yankees traded Sonny Gray to Cincinnati, they don’t have much depth in their rotation beyond the starting five of Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton, J.A. Happ and CC Sabathia.

While there are some familiar faces who could end up starting games in The Bronx this season — like Domingo German and Jonathan Loaisiga — there’s another name on the horizon that could join them soon.

Right-hander Michael King was among the 21 non-roster players to receive an invitation to major league spring training, the team announced Friday.

The 23-year-old King jumped from Class-A Tampa to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season and, as impressive as King’s numbers were, minor league pitching coordinator Danny Borrell liked something else even more.
