TAMPA, Fla. - The New York Yankees are anxiously awaiting CT scan and MRI results on first baseman Greg Bird's right foot after he was feeling discomfort in it Saturday morning.
Early tests and comments from Bird to team personnel indicate that the soreness he felt is related to an ankle injury that required surgery and sidelined him for most of last season.
"I'm worried about it, to be honest," general manager Brian Cashman said. "I'm not sure what we're dealing with. But when Greg, when he can't tee it up, that's a problem for us because he's a vital member of our organization.
