Sonny Gray is now officially an ex-Yankee and a day after his trade to the Reds became official, the right-hander still had no explanation for why things went so wrong in his year-plus with the Yankees, especially in The Bronx.
“That’s the question, isn’t it?” Gray told reporters during a conference call on Tuesday. “I’m not going to lie. I felt comfortable taking the mound. I felt good. It just didn’t work out. I don’t know. I don’t have an answer.”
Neither did the Yankees, which is why general manager Brian Cashman made it a priority this offseason to trade the 29-year-old, who wound up signing a three-year contract extension worth $30.
