Last night, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America named Shohei Ohtani the 2018 American League Rookie of the Year. The Angels pitcher and designated hitter received 25 of the 30 possible first place votes. The remaining five fell to the runner-up, Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar.
This decision naturally resulted in the polarization of Yankees fans. Many dug into their trenches, defending Andujar to the bitter end. They weren’t the only ones to take umbrage with the Rookie of the Year voting, however. In fact, a few of Andujar’s teammates took social media to express their displeasure.
