Sizing up Yankees trade: David Phelps for Nathan Eovaldi

MIAMI – One game doesn’t define the success or failure of a trade, but the Yankees and Marlins will have a chance to size up their December deal on Tuesday.

David Phelps and Nathan Eovaldi – the pitchers traded for each other in the five-player swap – will start the second and final game at Marlins Park, a quirky matchup on the schedule.

“That is strange,” Joe Girardi said. “I’m sure it’s happened before, but I’ve never seen it. I’ve never been part of it as a player or manager that it’s happened.”

Phelps spent 2010-12 with the Yankees as a swingman between the rotation and bullpen.
