Severino, Sanchez endure nightmare 1st inning

NEW YORK -- Luis Severino and Gary Sanchez looked like a battery that was not ready for prime time in the first inning Wednesday evening, with two wild pitches and two passed balls contributing to four early runs for the Athletics.

Severino stomped around the mound repeatedly during the frame, which also featured plenty of hard contact as well as a deep fly ball that went over the head of Andrew McCutchen, who appeared to lose it in the lights of the Oakland Coliseum.

Ramon Laureano led off with a well-struck double to left field, advancing to third base when Sanchez stabbed at an inside fastball for a passed ball and scoring on Jed Lowrie's line-drive single to right.
