September 23, 1996: Yankees lose to Red Sox in extras

Tied at one in the eighth inning, the Yankees scored two runs on two separate wild pitches from Boston reliever Heathcliff Slocumb to take a 3-1 lead. John Wetteland came on looking for his 43rd save, but instead, he allowed two unearned runs on singles from Darren Bragg and Mo Vaughn. The game then went into extras, where Graeme Lloyd surrendered an RBI single to Vaughn in the 11th. The Yankees staged a comeback rally in the bottom half, but Bernie Williams lined out to left with runners on first and second to end the game.
