TAMPA – There’s a new conditioning addition to the Yankees’ spring training facility at George M. Steinbrenner Field – a grass hill has been installed in the outfield of one of the back fields and the club hopes it can help add power to the players’ legs.
When pitchers and catchers have their first workout of spring training Friday, part of it may feature running up the hill, which sits where there was once a string of covered bullpen mounds.
The hill, according to GM Brian Cashman, was put there at the request of Matt Krause, who is entering his third season as the Yankees’ director of strength and conditioning.
