NEW YORK -- Gary Sanchez is scheduled to have surgery on his left shoulder this week, and the Yankees' catcher is expected to be ready for Opening Day, Brian Cashman said on Wednesday at the General Managers Meetings in Carlsbad, Calif.
The procedure to remove debris from the AC joint of Sanchez's non-throwing shoulder will be performed by Yankees team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad. Cashman estimated that Sanchez will need three months for a full recovery.
"It may very well be something that affected him performance-wise," Cashman said. "I can't rule that out. Now is the time to take care of it.
