The Yankees announced catcher Gary Sanchez will begin his rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League East Yankees on Saturday.
Sanchez, who has been out since late July with a right groin strain, will DH Saturday then work out in Tampa, Fla., on Sunday before joining Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes-Barre for Monday's game at Lehigh Valley. Sanchez could rejoin the Yankees prior to the road trip that opens Sept. 3 at Oakland, manager Aaron Boone said on Friday.
Additionally, prior to Saturday's split doubleheader vs. the Orioles, the Yankees recalled right-hander Luis Cessa from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as their 26th mam.
