BOSTON -- With Gary Sanchez continuing to rediscover his power stroke and Aaron Hicks returning to the lineup, the Yankees are moving closer to the single-season record for home runs by a club.
Sanchez belted a solo homer off Red Sox starter Brian Johnson in the third inning on Friday at Fenway Park, clearing the Green Monster. Hicks went deep off reliever William Cuevas in the fourth, slugging a three-run shot for the Bombers' 262nd home run of the season.
With the blasts (Sanchez's 18th, Hicks' 27th), the Yankees moved past the 2005 Rangers (260) for second place all-time.
