Ryan Ruocco was up to the challenge of filling in for John Sterling

Ryan Ruocco had some pressure on him Thursday, being the first substitute for John Sterling on a Yankees radio call in 30 years. Now, the reviews are in and he seems to have done just fine.

“@RyanRuocco is seriously the best PbP the Yankees have,” one fan, J.C. Dickinson, tweeted. “I need him doing every game, whether it’s radio or TV.”

Though most of the online reactions weren’t quite so overwhelmingly positive, the masses were satisfied with Ruocco’s performance. A video of his call on Gary Sanchez’s 10th-inning three-run home run went viral, as Ruocco played up the moment, raising his voice as the Yankees extended their lead to 8-3 in an eventual victory.
