Rough night for Sanchez behind plate, on basepaths

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Yankees nearly overcame the worst outing of the season for Luis Severino, but they fell short of a comeback, taking a 7-6 loss to the Rays on Monday night at Tropicana Field.

The Yankees loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning, but Rays reliever Jose Alvarado escaped, completing a four-out save. Rays third baseman Matt Duffy speared a grounder by Aaron Hicks and completed a force play at home for the second out of the ninth, but the game's final out was even more heartbreaking for the Yankees.
