NEW YORK -- Already without everyday backstop Gary Sanchez, the Yankees' catching depth took another hit Sunday when Austin Romine was removed from the game for precautionary reasons in the sixth inning. Romine exited a frame after being hit with a foul ball in the mask, prompting a delay of several minutes as he was attended to by the Yankees training staff.
Romine initially remained in the game, finishing the fifth inning, but he was replaced by Kyle Higashioka the next time the Yankees took the field. They were leading 8-0 at the time.
