The former Yankees and current Mariners star is being suspended 80 games for violating baseball’s joint drug agreement, a report out of the Dominican Republic stated Tuesday. The Athletic confirmed the report and an official announcement is expected later on Tuesday.
Cano, a presumed future Hall of Famer, is set to miss an extended period anyway after he broke a bone in his hand Sunday, when he got struck by a pitch.
Cano, a staple at second base who has played at least 150 games each season since 2007, was batting .
